All five of Mansfield ISD’s high school marching bands earned the highest distinction given at the 2021 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region Marching Band Contest.

The Region 5 bands competed on Oct. 12 at MISD’s Vernon Newsom Stadium. They were judged on their tone, musicianship, execution and drill design.

After the judges deliberated, Mansfield High, Lake Ridge High, Legacy High, Summit High and Timberview High all received the Superior mark, also known as a Division I rating, from all the judges.

According to UIL rules, conferences 6A and 4A have the opportunity to advance to area in even-numbered years. Conferences 5A, 3A and 2A can advance in odd-numbered years.

However, because of the competition disruptions that occurred last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all bands will be advancing to the next round this year.

The 5A bands—Legacy High, Summit High and Timberview High—will be competing in the area marching contest on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex in North Richland Hills. Lake Ridge High and Mansfield High, both in the 6A conference, will be participating in the area contest at Pennington Field in Bedford on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Winners of the area contest go on to compete at the state level.
