Dozens of Mansfield ISD elementary school students showed up ready to compete at the 2018 MISD Battle of the Bluebonnets.
The annual competition was held on March 20 at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts.
Each five-member team was given 80 questions to answer from select Bluebonnet books. The students who answered the most questions correctly won.
Tarver-Rendon Elementary School came in first place with only one missed question. Willie E. Brown Elementary School took the second place spot with two missed questions. The team from Martha Reid Leadership Academy came in third place after missing three questions.
The Texas Bluebonnet Award reading program, sponsored by the Texas Library Association, was established in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more and explore a variety of current books.
The Battle of the Bluebonnets is aligned with MISD's Vision 2020 strategic plan, which states that students will read on level or higher by the beginning of third grade and remain on level or higher as an MISD student.
